West of Calico was created during the COVID pandemic. Faced with the limitations of filming during this time, Luca developed a concept that facilitated getting back on set, ensuring that all participants felt comfortable being involved. Luca took on multiple roles, including audio mixing, cinematography, directing, and writing, while Raz Fritz and Ryan Emilio Molina lended not only their talents but an extra hand as the crew was non-existent.
The film won multiple awards and was screened at the 2022 Chelsea Film Festival and the Almeria Western Film Festival. It was also screened in the historic town of Tabernas, renowned for being the location where Sergio Leone famously shot For a Few Dollars More, with an introduction from Italian Western star Franco Nero.
